Bon Jovis soulful performance of 'Hallelujah' has become the favorite of millions
The 56-year-old rock singer-songwriter Jon Bon Jovi is known as one of the most talented vocalists of the 1980’s, having produced many classic rock anthems from the decade along with his namesake band Bon Jovi, founded in 1983.
But as Country Music Nation has reported, there is a lesser-known side to Bon Jovi that is also very appealing, especially to a broader audience less inclined to rock music but to softer genres.
There has always been a romantic and sensitive side to the rock musician, and Bon Jovi likes to treat his live audience during his concerts with something different, performing his take of the Leonard Cohen classic song Hallelujah every time he has a chance.
Bon Jovi’s rendition of the popular ballad was included in his band’s 2007 live album Lost Highway: The Concert, but every time he performs the moving song on stage he keeps bringing chills to the delighted fans.
Bon Jovi’s legendary vocals really add up to the beautiful and timeless tune, and he is versatile enough to give the song a fresh treatment that brings the song’s lyrics to new heights.
For his performance of the song, Bon Jovi’s voice takes a softer approach than when singing one of his usual songs, but he puts a great deal of soul in the vocals, and nobody can be indifferent to his rendition of the classic.
Hallelujah was first released by Cohen in 1984 as part of his album Various Positions. At the time of its release, the song was poorly received by the public, but it enjoyed a renewed interest when a cover version of it was featured in the very popular animated movie Shrek in 2001
Bon Jovi, the band, was announced as a 2018 inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on December 2017, and the original members are going to be reunited for the induction ceremony to take place on April 14.
