D&D 5E - Homebrew: Legend of Zelda, Heroes of Time
I’d recommend doing some map modifications to make it more Hyrulian.
That's definitely a good way to go about it. Do you mean just using a full-on map of Hyrule, such as in appendix E of the module, or to alter the main (Nentir Vale) map to change it's location names--such as changing Hammerfast to Goron City, etc? Could you explain why that would be a better option? My idea was to keep the Nentir Vale map original, though have in-game Hyrulean name references. For instance, the map shows the town of Fallcrest (representing Hyrule Castle Town), yet its keep will be known as Hyrule Castle, as that name is not marked on the map. This would still give the setting that typical Zelda-feeling.
My main issue with the Ocarina of Time locations is that their names aren't very inspiring: gerudo valley, gerudo fortress, gerudo desert. Goron City. Zora's river, zora's domain. The list goes on. Ocarina of Time really just has one settlement per race, named after that race. My intention is to give the setting more depth by allowing more settlements with varied names, while Ocarina of Time's recognizable areas and landmarks will still be present.
