John Boyega Says The Star Wars: The Force Awakens Script Made Him Cry
For the past two years or so, we’ve all had to suffer through almost countless Star Wars: The Force Awakens rumours and theories, and John Boyega’s recent comments about his first time reading the movie’s script are sure to fuel those even more. Talking to GQ Magazine, the British actor revealed that it brought tears to his eyes:
“When I read the script I cried, and I’m not really a big crier… I’m more like a frog-in-the- throat kind of guy, who’ll try to hold it in and make sure I don’t let it all out.”
While this should by no means be taken as any sort of confirmation of rumours that a lead character will be killed off in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s hard to now not be at least a little concerned. Regardless, Boyega went on to describe Finn’s story arc in the movie, and it sounds like it will have some interesting parallels to some of the franchise’s other fan-favourite heroes, as he goes from Stormtrooper in The First Order to a member of the Resistance (and maybe a Jedi).
“Finn is dope. His story is so epic. It’s a story that’s never been seen before, but it also mirrors the stories of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. And he’s quirky and charismatic and funny. For me, he was the best character in the script.”
It remains to be seen whether or not Finn is indeed a Jedi (many believe that the images of him wielding a lightsaber are misdirection to cover up the fact that Daisy Ridley’s Rey is one), and the Attack the Block and 24: Live Another Day star wasn’t willing to go into details when asked about wielding a lightsaber in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Either way, we’ll find out for sure when the film is released on December 18th.
