PHILADELPHIA — The Mets have one game to make up at Citizens Bank Park later this season and hope to avoid a second.

A forecast of rain throughout the night forced the postponement of Mets-Phillies on Friday. That game is scheduled to be played as part of a doubleheader on Aug. 20, when the Mets return to town for the last time this season.

Saturday’s forecast is also ugly, with rain and wind expected, albeit with a possible clearing in the evening (the teams are scheduled for a 4:05 p.m. first pitch).

If the teams can’t play Saturday, it’s questionable whether a doubleheader would be scheduled for Sunday because the Phillies have to travel to Seattle for a game on Monday. It’s possible a Saturday rainout would mean a reschedule on a mutual open date.

The Phillies return to play the Mets in New York on Memorial Day weekend. If all the games go on as scheduled the teams will have played 12 times before the end of May.

The rainout, coupled with Monday’s day off, should leave the Mets with a rested bullpen for the remainder of this series and the one that begins Tuesday in Washington. Manager Buck Showalter was cognizant on Friday to ensure Seth Lugo (who would have entered a tie game in the ninth inning) didn’t get fully warmed up. Starling Marte’s go-ahead double meant Edwin Diaz for the final three outs.

Tommy Hunter in recent days threw live batting practice in extended spring training in Port St. Lucie, Fla., according to pitching coach Jeremy Hefner. The veteran reliever, who returned to the Mets on a minor league deal last month, will be assigned to Triple-A Syracuse once he’s deemed built up enough.

“He’s tracking toward getting to Triple-A at some point, but he’s got to do it,” Hefner said. “He’s got to go out and show that he is the Tommy we had last year or even before that and he can be a guy.”
