What you have to know about agender flag
By now, we should be familiar with the rainbow flag of the “lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender” community, popularly known as LGBT. However, many do not know about the agender flag.
Let us be honest; we all want to belong somewhere where we will be accepted for who and what we are. The LGBT have their community, and it is, from all indications, a close-knit one. The agender flag represents something like that for a lot of different persons who want to go against the norms about gender.
Let us find out what the flag means and who lets it fly.

The Agender flag is a flag created to represent those within the Agender community. Agender people are those who identify as having no gender, having an undefinable gender, not aligning with any gender or gender-neutral or neutrois.

People who identify as agender may describe themselves as one or more of the following:
- Gender neutral. This may mean they are neither men nor women, yet they still have a gender.
- Neutrois or neutrally gendered.
- Libragender, which means feeling mostly agender but with a partial connection to another gender.
- Having an unknown or undefinable gender; not aligning with any binary or non-binary gender.
- Having no other words that fit their gender identity.
- Not knowing or not caring about gender as an internal identity and/or as an external form of identification.
- Deciding not to label their gender.
- Identifying more as a person than any gender at all.
Agender flag meaning
The first agender flag was created in 2014 by Salem X. The flag has seven flags and four colours. Here is what they mean:
- Black and white stripes represent a lack of gender.
- Gray represents semi-genderless.
- Green represents nonbinary genders.
However, a 2021 variant was created by Mars to offer all agender people an additional representation. It is also called a genderless flag, and it has about four to five colours. The colours have the following meanings:
- Turquoise (leaves – working for agender liberation).
- Lime (limes – agender love, community, and friendship).
- Yellow (lemons – agender joy and celebration).
- Orange (agender art and creativity).
- Red (agender diversity and individual expression).

Agender pride flag
Agender people are sometimes linked to the LGBT community. The flag, in this case, means the promotion of self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility for their (agender) community. Many agender people identify as genderqueer, non-binary and/or transgender. However, some prefer to avoid these terms, especially transgender, as they feel this implies identifying as a gender other than their assigned gender while they do not identify as any gender at all.
Since agender generally means not having or identifying with any gender, some people in this community do not want to be labelled as any gender at all. Therefore, many agender people have a preference for pronouns, though some prefer to avoid using gendered language about themselves as much as possible. They may also have the same hormone therapies or surgeries available to transgender and nonbinary people.
Hence, the agender pride flag was created in 2014 to represent people of unique genders, including the agender people. So far, the flag is inclusive, as there is no known criticism from people of the community.
